Juayua

By latinamericantravels

Pronounced (Gwhy – you – uh), this is my favorite place in El Salvador. Juayua is about 90 minutes from San Salvador (probably a little more than two hours by bus). The Juayua waterfalls are near the town, 40 minutes to an hour hike, depending on where you park. Natural springs come out of the hillside and man-made dams make several small pools that make for some great swimming. Pack a lunch and eat it at the falls. Also, the town of Juayua is pretty neat. It’s a small colonial town. Not a lot to see, there’s a central park and a cathedral, but worth stopping for a bite to eat or an ice cream. On the weekends there’s a market and several months of the year they have an outdoor festival with all kinds of food, but mostly meats.
